Dr Jan-Ulrich Kreft

Lecturer in Computational Biology, UK

I am a microbiologist by training and develop mathematical models of the spread of antibiotic resistance plasmids in bacterial communities such as biofilms. As a microbiologist I am acutely aware of the lack of new antibiotics in the pipeline and the ever increasing number of pathogens with the multiple drug resistances that make it increasingly harder to treat infections. As a citizen, I also realise that many of us might have died without taking antibiotics at same stage, as indeed many people did not survive childhood in the pre-antibiotic era.  Lets make sure that we are not entering a post-antibiotic era.
