Dr Marco Oggioni

Clinical Microbiologist, Siena University Hospital, Italy

I am a clinical microbiologist at the Siena University Hospital and teaching at the University of Siena.  Regarding antibiotics, I am firmly convinced that these compounds are upon the best tools we have to re-equilibrate the peaceful coexistence with the microbial flora which shares with us the same ecological nice: our body.  Since our bacteria outnumber us by a factor of at least 10, we must be careful in wasting the potency of antibiotics, by mis- and over-use.  My research and teaching includes themes addressing these aspects.
