Dr Marina Payerl Pal

Head of Microbiology, Institute of Public Health, Medjimuje County, Croatia

I am specialist of microbiology and parasitology and the head of the Microbiology laboratory in the Institute for Public Health of the County Medjimuje, Croatia.  I participate in the number of national programmes and projects. As a microbiologist I also participate in European projects such as ARPAC, EARSS- net and TESSY. I have been included in the work of the Committee for monitoring bacterial resistance of bacteria to antibiotics in the Republic of Croatia at the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences since, and in the year 2006 I became its secretary. I have also been working  as a secretary for the APUA since 2003. I especially deal with hospital infections as well as with monitoring bacterial resistance and consumption of antibiotics. Last few years I am particularly dedicated to prudent use of antibiotics through lots of activities, such as lectures, working with different groups of people – children in kindergarten, educators, colleagues of different specialities and etc. On the national level I have been monitoring antibiotic consumption in our country since 2004. As a lecturer I participated at the symposium for European Antibiotic Awareness Day several times.
