Dr Maximiliano Alvarez Fernandez

Clinical Microbiologist, Complejo Hospital University of Vigo, Sotomayor, Spain

As a Clinical Microbiologist I have been in involved in antimicrobial testing and research since 1990.  My first steps were on aminoglycoside resistance in Acinetobacter spp.  P. aeruginosa and Enterobacteriaceae.  In 995 I worked at Dr Jacoby’s lab in Am p C Beta lactamases.  In the late 90’s I moved my interests towards MRSA epidemiology.  I have also worked in antimicrobial resistance or oral bacteria.  Clinically I ever worked with antimicrobial testing, using different commercial systems as well as home made susceptibility tests.  As a postgraduate professor my course was related with the molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, its clinical, environmental, agricultural and livestock relationship.  The work related with antimicrobial resistance produced different originals in peer review journals, oral and poster presentations in scientific meetings.  I am a member of the ASM, SEIMC, and ESCMID.
