Melinda T. Hough, B.S., M.Sc., Ph.D., is the Health Research Policy Advisor at ScienceDebate.org and Director of Public Relations at Stand With Science. In 2012, Melinda was named a Mirzayan Science and Technology Graduate Policy Fellow at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) where she developed policy briefs and worked with a multidisciplinary team on the development of an interactive digital media application connecting the public to the scientific work of the National Academies. In addition, she co-developed several of the final presidential, congressional, and gubernatorial science policy questions with ScienceDebate.org (2012). Prior to her work at NAS and with ScienceDebate.org, Melinda was a Wellcome Trust Scholar at the University of Edinburghwhere she completed a Master’s and Ph.D.in molecular microbiology investigating how bacteria are killed by antibiotics and the global public health crisis of antimicrobial resistance. Currently, Melinda passionately advocates on ethical issues related to antibiotic stewardship and sustainable funding of the research enterprise across the United States and abroad.
