My laboratory focuses on understanding the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of bacterial pathogens.  A core goal is to seek novel therapeutic strategies from our increasing understanding of bacterial social life.  Bacteria are surprisingly social organisms, acting collectively to exploit their environments (including us), through the coordinated release of shared secreted molecules.  By decoding the complex social life of bacteria, we hope to find new and evolution-proof mechanisms of control.
