The problem of antimicrobial resistance cannot be overstated: antimicrobial chemotherapy underpins modern medicine. In response I have dedicated my professional life to enhancing our understanding of bacterial pathogens, especially problematic nosocomial organisms (focusing on antibiotic resistance mechanisms, associated biological fitness impacting the pathogen, host and the environment) with a view to developing more effective intervention strategies including the development of better diagnostic tools and investigating the potential of novel therapeutic strategies using both conventional and unconventional approaches.
I am a passionate communicator, endeavoring to dissect and convey complex scenarios and abstract ideas to diverse audiences. As such, I have volunteered as a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) ambassador and have participated in many events that promote STEM careers to young people.
