Mr Andrew Harborne

4th Year Medical Student, Keele Medical School, UK

My name is Andrew Harborne and I am currently in my 4th Year at Keele Medical School.  I became aware of the Antibiotic Action campaign when I was looking for research projects to take part in for a third year student selected component.  I had previously written an essay on bacteriophages (viruses that are pathogenic for bacteria) which highlighted the need for further research and development on antibacterial agents.  Since I have joined Antibiotic Action I have highlighted the problems lack of new antibiotic developments will have in the future to a number of colleagues.  Many of my colleagues have now signed the petition calling on governments worldwide to address the very serious issue of a lack of new antibiotic development.
