Assistant Professor, Microbiology, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal

I am working as an assistant professor at Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal.  I am also serving |Medicare National Hospital and Research Center, Kathmandu as a Consultant Microbiologist.  I have been honoured with two classes of National Education Medals entitled “Nepal Bidya Padak-GA” and “Nepal Bidya Padak-KHA” for academic excellence during my undergraduate and postgraduate studies.  I am basically focussed on drug resistance in bacteria.  My research team is working on Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase, Metallo-beta-lactamase and Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus.  We are encountering several pandrug resistant bacteria.  We feel that there is no prudent use of antibiotics in our part of the world and hence multidrug resistant, extremely drug resistant and pandrug resistant bacteria are increasing in our set-up.  To tackle with this dreadful situation, I am raising my voice for the judicious use of existing antibiotics among my peers and also disseminating my research finding to the medical community and the general population.  I hope Antibiotic Action Champions can act in a significant role to decrease the rate of drug resistant bacteria.
