Peggy Fooks

Medical student, Oxford, UK

As a medical student in my penultimate year, I am very aware of the implications the risk of antibiotic resistance could have on the NHS and further afield during my career.  Much of the medicine and especially surgery, I see on a day to day basis would be impossible without a reliable supply of antibiotics to hand.  I am interested in attempts to design new drugs and the global effort to combat their over use in humans and animals.  (In fact, I helped to organise a conference covering these very topics).  I want to help remind my peers that antibiotic availability cannot be taken for granted.  I am also interested in developing policy and hope in the future to become involved in the wider effort to protect the global population against resistant bacteria.
