President, Society for General Microbiology
Nigel Brown is a molecular microbiologist who has worked for many years on the transmission and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance. His researches have focused on antimicrobial metals, which may be factors in the transmission of antibiotic resistance between bacterial species. He has held senior academic positions at the Universities of Birmingham and Edinburgh, and was Director of Science and Technology at the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Society of Biology. He is currently the President of the Society for General Microbiology.
