Currently a Medical Science student, good medical communication is something hugely important to me. The subject of medicine if relevant to all and the problem of antibiotic resistance is no exception. The very fact that more people could die from resistant infection in 10 years is something I find hugely daunting especially as currently we have the resources to stop this from happening. However these resources are now hugely fragile and running out.

I advocate better prescription of antibiotics. If a mother comes to see a doctor with a sick child and the doctor prescribes antibiotics, ‘just in case’, the mother will never be at liberty to take the risk. Half of prescription antibiotics are incorrectly given and this needs to stop.

We all need to come together to educate the population so antibiotics are treated with more care.
