Who should sign? The answer is simple – anyone anywhere in the world willing to support the need for antibiotics for now and future use.  Show governments worldwide the importance of being able to treat infections now and in the future.

The petition of Antibiotic Action (a global initiative of the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy) declares that the treatment of common and serious bacterial infections will be seriously compromised unless urgent steps are taken to stimulate investment in the discovery and development of new antibiotics. Therefore, the petitioners request that the House of Commons and governments worldwide support the discovery, development and bringing to market of new antibacterial agents by identifying:

  1. What opportunities exist to safely streamline and accelerate the licensing processes for new antibiotics.
  2. How to address and incentivise the commercial challenges faced by industry in developing and bringing new antibiotics to the marketplace.
  3. Initiatives that will encourage more partnership working between academia and pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies in the UK in order to maximise the conversion of discovered candidate molecules into licensed antibiotics available for use on the NHS
