The need for innovative medicines to control and destroy infections is becoming as serious as it was before the era of antibiotics. If there was ever a duty of government to invest in portecting the popluation that it serves this has to be a central one. The need for this research should not be driven solely on the potential return to shareholders but on a return to the nation’s Health – the one factor that determines its overall quality and economy.
