The Surviving Sepsis Campaign (United Kingdom) , UK Sepsis Trust and UK Sepsis Group embrace this initiative by Antibiotic Action as key to ensuring that development of antibiotics keeps pace with microbial evolution. Availability of effective antibiotics is the single most important factor in ensuring that as many as possible of the 37,000 patients who die each year from sepsis can be saved. Investment in antibiotic development is, literally, vital.
