USA Releases Policy Roadmap to Reduce Antibiotic Use in Livestock

The Expert Commission on Addressing the Contribution of Livestock to the Antibiotic Resistance Crisis released a report in August 2017 titled, “Combating Antibiotic Resistance: A Policy Roadmap to Reduce Use of Medically Important Antibiotics in Livestock”. The roadmap consists of 11 core policy recommendations that are split into three key areas:

  1. decreasing use of medically important antibiotics in livestock,
  2. monitoring antibiotic use in livestock, and
  3. enhancing surveillance and data integration to inform antibiotic resistance policy.
